The first day (July 5th) we flew into Billings late at night, then met up with
Grandma and Grandpa with their camping, er, travel trailer, and headed out for Yellowstone.
We then drove on to Gardiner, at the north entrance to
Yellowstone, and checked out the surrounding area, including a gravel road back
to Jardine. Ian went to great lengths to get the good shots.

Along the way was a small pond and building, apparently for
irrigation. There were several channels in the area for moving water.

It took Philip a little while to get used to the sulfur smell.

Yeah, yeah, tell that to Grandpa too, not just me. He's the one that
walked away from the boardwalk over the hot springs, I just fell off as a little kid
when my parents were supposed to be watching me.

We next visited the Norris Geyser Basin, where the colors and the bleached out tree
trunks caught our eyes. (The sulfur springs would kill the trees as they shift
over time).

The three of us at the Paint Pots trail.

Mali, Ian and Philip (in the far back, left-to-right) get sprayed with steam
on the Paint Pots trail. (The paint pots themselves have become fairly small lately).

The crowd waits for Old Faithful to erupt. This happens pretty much every 90 minutes
like clockwork.

One of the deep, absolutely clear, pools along the boardwalk north of Old Faithful.

This rather oddly textured pool was empty when I took the picture
but a minute later was full, then I watched it drain like a sink within seconds.
